Early Wednesday morning, May 22, the Arlington County Sheriff's Office was notified by the Alexandria Police Department that an off duty Deputy Sheriff had been involved in a shooting. The deputy is a 17-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office and has been placed on administrative leave pending Alexandria PD's investigation.

The Arlington County Board today honored eight Outstanding County Volunteers for their efforts to strengthen the community and enhance the services the County government delivers. The services provided by Arlington volunteers are valued at over $7.5 million. The County Board also honored four Connect with Kids Champions.

Arlington County has met and exceeded the 2007 AIRE (Arlington Initiative to Rethink Energy) goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from County government operations 10 percent by 2012 from a 2000 base. The County has achieved a reduction of 11.7 percent in its emissions, even as its services and facilities increased.
