Arlington County on Tuesday issued $206 million of General Obligation Public Improvement and Refunding Bonds. Of the total, $94 million was new funding issued as traditional tax-exempt bonds.

A popular Senior Travel Program run by Arlington County’s Department of Parks and Recreation that had operated with little oversight has been restructured and brought under strict management. “The Senior Travel Program is a very successful program that unfortunately, cut corners in its operations,” said Arlington County Manager Barbara Donnellan. “We took this case very seriously. Although the police investigation found no criminal activity, we took a number of actions – including personnel actions – to ensure that this program has oversight, accountability and transparency in its operations.”

The Arlington County Board today approved changes to street vending regulations that will allow on-street vendors up to two hours vending time, and provide consistent enforcement rules.

Arlington County honored 19 Notable Trees and their caretakers at today’s Board meeting, bringing the total number of Notable Trees to 265. The Notable Tree Program is an initiative of the Arlington Beautification Committee that recognizes residents who maintain and preserve outstanding trees.

The move supports the County's development of a new website built on open-source software. Arlington County is one of the first local governments in Virginia to share its code in this way.

The Arlington County Board adopted a $1.09 billion General Fund Budget for FY 2014, restoring funding for many proposed program cuts. “We heard from Arlingtonians that they want to preserve key services, restore proposed cuts to our police and fire departments and inspections of child care facilities; care for those most in need; do what it takes to keep our schools among the nation’s best, and increase our investments in affordable housing and capital maintenance,” said County Board Chairman J. Walter Tejada. “This budget builds on the Board’s direction to the Manager to sustain vital services while building for the future.”
