The Arlington County Board today approved the County’s acquisition of the seven-story office building at 2020 14th St. N. in the Courthouse area. The County anticipates going to closing on the purchase contract next week.

The Arlington County Board today approved a plan to redevelop a Virginia Square site that now houses the Arlington Funeral Home with a public plaza and a nine-story mixed-use commercial building that will include offices, ground-floor retail and a black box theater.

Arlington’s 2012 real estate assessments are up 6.6% overall, continuing last year’s recovery. The commercial sector, including office and apartment properties, showed particular strength, gaining 13.5%. Single-family residential values showed modest growth. Existing properties -- including detached homes, condominiums and townhouses -- increased 1.8%, from an average value of $510,200 to $519,400.
