The Arlington County Board voted today to update its Green Building Incentive Program. The update emphasizes energy performance and reduced overall environmental impact for site plan developments that voluntarily seek incentives under the program. The Green Building Incentive Program is designed to encourage the construction of buildings that are more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable than buildings built to code.

The Arlington County Board today approved a plan to replace Marymount University's eight-story "Blue Goose" facility at 1000 N. Glebe Road with two new, more energy efficient buildings. The development will allow the university to maintain and expand its presence in Ballston, while adding apartments, ground floor retail and a public plaza to the two-acre site.

Arlington’s 2012 real estate assessments are up 6.6% overall, continuing last year’s recovery. The commercial sector, including office and apartment properties, showed particular strength, gaining 13.5%. Single-family residential values showed modest growth. Existing properties -- including detached homes, condominiums and townhouses -- increased 1.8%, from an average value of $510,200 to $519,400.
