Arlington County Board Announces 2011 ABBIE Award Winners

  • 7,500+ Arlingtonians voted for Arlington’s Best Businesses
  • Multiple awards for Lost Dog Cafe
  • Newcomer takes home Best Customer Service ABBIE
 
ARLINGTON, Va. – More than 7,500 Arlingtonians voted for their favorite local businesses and venues in the 2011 People’s Choice, Arlington Best Business “ABBIE” Awards, Arlington County officials announced today. Among the winners:
  • Lost Dog Café won for both Best Family Friendly Restaurant and Best "Bargain" Restaurant for the third year in a row.
  • Carlyle won Best Brunch, Bob & Edith’s Diner won Best Late Night Spot and Signature Theatre won Best Performing Arts Organization, all for the third year in a row.
  • Newcomer Circa, nominated in six categories, took home an ABBIE for Best Customer Service.
First-time winners:
  • Dogma Gourmet Dog Bakery and Boutique, Best Place to Care for Your Pet
  • District Taco, Best New Business
  • Ireland’s Four Courts, Best Neighborhood Bar
  • Circa, Best Customer Service
The winners in the 15 ABBIE categories were announced at today’s County Board meeting.
 
“The ABBIES give Arlingtonians a way to express their enthusiasm for the best of Arlington business, especially the small retail stores and restaurants that help shape the character of our community,” County Board Chairman Christopher Zimmerman said.

All nomination submissions and voting for the People’s Choice ABBIES took place online. Those without access to a computer at home or work were encouraged to use Arlington Public Library internet stations.
 
In addition to recognition from the Arlington County Board, this year’s ABBIE winners will receive a year’s worth of acknowledgment from Arlington Economic Development, including promotion on the Arlington County Web site, in Arlington e-newsletters, Arlington Virginia Network (AVN) television spots, newspapers advertisements and special placement in the Arlington County Visitors Guide and Map.
