ARLINGTON, VA – The Arlington County Board today voted unanimously to advertise a property tax rate of 97.8 cents per $100 of assessed value for Calendar Year (CY) 2012, including the stormwater sanitary district tax. This is 2 cents above the CY 2011 real estate tax rate.

The Board will hold public hearings on the budget in March and adopt the budget in April. The 2013 fiscal year begins July 1, 2012.

By law, the Board cannot adopt a rate higher than the one advertised, although it may adopt a lower rate.

“In the next six weeks we will hear more from the public, and weigh the needs of the community,” Arlington County Board Chairman Mary Hynes said. “Our goal is to deliver a sustainable, balanced budget in April that spends tax dollars wisely, delivers core services efficiently and makes strategic  investments in our infrastructure.”
Board acts upon County Manager’s recommendation

It includes employee compensation increases, funding obligations for Metro, debt, and contractual increases, an increase in the ongoing funding for affordable housing (AHIF), library hour restorations, and increases to Schools (4.8%).
