County Board to Honor ARPANet Founders at Tuesday Recessed Board Meeting

The Arlington County Board on Tuesday, May 17, will honor the creators of the forerunner of what we know today as the Internet and the World Wide Web. These scientists worked, at the time, in Arlington, for ARPA -- the Advanced Research Projects Agency. ARPA later became DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Their work has had a profound effect on how we work and how we conduct our private lives. Join the County Board at its 3:30 p.m. meeting on the third floor of Courthouse Plaza, 2100 Clarendon Blvd. as it honors these technology pioneers.

County Board Chairman Christopher Zimmerman will recognize their achievements, show a video on ARPAnet produced by the County's cable channel and display the two historic markers that the County will place in front of ARPA's former headquarters at 1400 Wilson Blvd. in Rosslyn.
