Marsha Allgeier
Deputy County Manager
Marsha Allgeier was appointed Deputy County Manager in November 2005. Previously she was the Director of the Arlington County Department of Human Services from 2001 to 2005.
Ms. Allgeier joined Arlington County as a community development planner in what is now the Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development in 1978, became CD Target Area Supervisor in 1980, and Neighborhood Improvement Section Chief in 1986. In 1988, she moved to the Department of Human Services as Chief of the Office of Special Programs, which included the newly formed Arlington Employment Center as well as the Agency on Aging and homeless programs. She served as Chief of the Planning and Administration Division of DHS from 1993 to 2001 before becoming Director.
Prior to joining Arlington, Ms. Allgeier worked for the Town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, as an environmental and community development planner. She also worked as an analyst for a consulting firm in Chapel Hill, and for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a program specialist in environmental policy. Ms. Allgeier was awarded an Urban Studies Fellowship from HUD for pursuit of graduate studies.
Ms. Allgeier was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in American Civilization from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and her Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
